Should vehicles used for pest control be sign written?
Is it time to be seen, and proud to be seen?
Are there safety reasons to sign write pest control vehicles?
What do you think?

Well Matt I am going the other way on vehicles, I intend on using an estate car for smaller jobs something that looks like a supervisor / technician style vehicle that does 45...50 to the gallon, and my van for bigger jobs....neither sign written for me, never had a sign writing on any of my business vans....

me i am a firm beleiver in advertising, once you have paid for the advertising it becomes free advertising wherever you go. thousands of people will see you every day the more times you use your signwritten vehicle the more people see you. what more can you ask for. After all if you advertise in the yellow pages etc you pay a lot for the ad, vans cost normally around 200 pounds and are seen everyday. if you are prepared to advertise anywhere at all and trade in pest control then why not advertise the fact. as i see it the only people that have a problem with it is the animal rights folk. that is till they get rats etc, then who do they call. magnetic signs look cheap and tacky and do not normally bring in trade as they look like you are ashamed of your trade.

I agree, it's a good method of advertising and is seen all day every day unlike the YP which is only used when there is a problem. It should work subliminarily (?) and when someone does have a pest problem they will think - what was the name on that van again ? ;D

I believe in sign written vans, I'm not ashamed of being a pest controller. If the Queen admits to pest problems then it is good enough for Mrs.. who is scatred about a sign written van. I wish it was compulsory as we carry pesticides.
But those who don't believe or see the need will never be convinced.
Sign written and proud.

Sign written and proud. I don't think it's a case of us being ashamed Nick, it's some of our customers who are not happy about having a sign written van outside their house or establishment. It's a British thing I know (the yanks sing it from the roof tops) but if our customers aren't happy then it is a legitimate consideration. On balance I'm in favour and will get my van sign written but it is certainly not a clear cut case.

I hope your discerning customers do not buy from super markets, bakers, butchers because they have EFK/fly killer machines, so that establishment has/had a fly problem!
Or it is preventative measures?
Perception in the years I have been going only one person didn't like the idea of a sign written van, got more work from it than I've lost
What happens if like other parts of the world you have to go sign written? Me I park outside their neighbours, if they had a problem.
When I last looked at the calender we were in the 21st Century. Seems for some that is the future
I do not delete my posts, so copying is not necessary

always good to get served quicker at a takeaway or chip shop. i always say to my customers, how do the nieghbours know why i am here unless you tell them.
ok i know a man in a white suit with mask and spray machine just to look at the paintwork is a bit over the top but hey we are pesties, as someone said to me no matter what the job wear more ppe than required and the customer will happily pay as they perceive that the work is a more hazardous task than they first thought. sign written best thing i ever did, admittedly on this van i have not got pest control on it but that is cos i do very little now and my main business links nicely to the name, coincidentally of course.

I do not delete my posts, so copying is not necessary I'm just making the point that it's not the pest controllers who are ashamed of their profession but often the customers are. What ever your views on sign writing, that perception does exist with some customers. Although I still agree on balance that signwriting is the way to go the case for the discreet approach is just as valid. I didn't copy because I thought you would delete? Just to reference your comments.
