only if the fox is going to be in any more stress while you fetch the gun to shoot it, but then why would you set a trap to catch a fox if you aint got the means to end it. i have done this in the past when my boss the head keeper set some snares and told me to check them, while feeding, pick axe handle to the skull is just as quick as a .22

Nice one, can you imagine walking down a high street with a club, arriving at reception where you have a trap in the rear cellar or something and banging the club on the counter and claiming to be the wildlife manager responsible for catching the foxes and you have caught and now you are coming bump it off with a club You won't have many jobs coming in after a while.

There is nothing illegal with culling a fox with a cosh. For one its a lot quieter & safer than a firearm. The fox does not suffer any more than if it was shot. Yeah Phil I bang my BIG GUN on the counter every time I go to check my traps. As I said before if you haven't got the balls, stick to your guns. But sometimes the cosh is a better solution & a safer way of dispatching a trapped fox. No client of mine has complained of how the fox was dispatched.

Never thought it would happen, but have to agree with Bignoel. Totally unacceptable and not very professional

If i live trap a fox, and i can't shoot it because it's in a housing estate back garden or whatever. Put a sheet over the top of the cage, take the cage out to my field, take the sheet off, lie on the floor with my .22lr at 18yrds. Wait for it to calm down then shoot it straight in the head. At 18yrds that's bang on the cross hairs.

why dont you dispatch it where you catch it .point blank range moderated 22lr . i do every single fox aiming down on it , i also use a ppk pistol for dispatching in around london .

A professional using a club to beat a fox to death?? That's a joke!
I use the moderated .22lr point blank range, totally safe in the right hands and IMHO the quickest most humane method.
If you don't have a gun why not use the humane dispatch bolt? I'm not a big fan of these things but they have to be more humane that a bat.

Do you think that humane dispatch should be taught on some of the mainstream courses? My vote is yes
